Collected by Serizawa Keisuke, the statue has an inscription on its pedestal: “開皇十八年十月,” indicating that it was made in October, A.D. 598 during the Sui dynasty. But the statue’s form resembles the earlier Loyang style of the later Northern Wei period. This style is characterized by an elongated face and flat body, symmetrical left to right, clothed in Chinese garments. The Loyang style was first seen around A.D. 500 in the Northern Wei kingdom, and  continued for some time after the kingdom's end.\nAlthough missing many details of the Loyang style, the Museum’s statue does include its basic characteristics.
