大腸菌をモデル細菌として用いてナノバブル(NB)の殺菌活性を調べた。ナノバブルは、ナノスケールの直孔を規則的に配列させた多孔質アルミナ膜を用いて作製した。ナノバブルの殺菌活性を評価するために、NB 懸濁液中に細菌を留置した。殺菌活性は、細菌培地上にコロニー化した生細胞の数から求めた生存率で推定した。二酸化炭素(CO 2 )、酸素(O 2 )、窒素(N 2 )の3 種類のガスを含むNB 水に曝露した場合の細菌の生存率を調べた結果、CO 2 を含むNB 水に曝露すると細菌の生存率が有意に低下することがわかった。 酸素ガス、窒素ガスを含むNB 水に曝露しても、有意な殺菌効果は認められなかった。O 2 NB 水に曝露した場合には、大腸菌の増殖が観察された。NB 懸濁液中の活性酸素の発生を電子スピン共鳴分光法(ESR)で調べた。その結果、NB 懸濁液中に発生する活性酸素の主なものは水酸基ラジカル(OH・)であり、活性酸素の発生はCO 2 NB
